What emboldened these people was not just gathering in numbers and terrorizing anyone in their path but also that Mayor Ted Wheeler and the Portland police did so little to hinder in any way these premeditated acts of terrorism. In fact, the city and the various federal law enforcement outfits that aid them failed so miserably that they essentially welcomed and encouraged the extremists to push their neo-fascism to a grander scale. During a 2019 rally by these out-of-state purveyors of terror Mayor Wheeler and the Portland police even inexplicably choose to close down an entire bridge so that the violent interlopers might traverse the city more triumphantly and pose for photo ops.

So #portlandpolice were content to "just advise" their fascist and Nazi friends (who came from all over the country and were so explicit about their intent to kill Portlanders that their pals in the #FBI told them to chill), but they felt the need to concoct spurious bullshit to arrest Portlanders who protested against the Nazis coming to attack and kill people. Sounds about right for #TedWheeler's police force.
