I guess it's also "funny" how autoreduction was elaborated & embraced in 1970s #Italy during the period known as the #YearsOfLead - when #police used #fascist groups as proxies to carry out violence, terrorism, & murder against leftist organizers (a situation that people in #Portland are very familiar with).

The #OrganizedRetailCrime hoax is being used as bait to induce US fascist groups & deranged #MAGA loyalists to carry out violence. #Trump has given his followers license to murder anyone they suspect (and we know who they'll suspect) of being a shoplifter:

"If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store."

it's funny that a country whose power structure is hopelessly indoctrinated with pro-capitalist propaganda opportunistically embraces panic hallucinations about "organized retail theft" which resemble actual historical forms of anticapitalist struggle (such as "autoreduction") which are neither taking place nor even widely known here.

Combating Organized Retail Crime: The Innovative Startups Leading the Charge

Organized Retail Crime (ORC) is a significant issue that has been escalating in recent years. ORC is the large-scale theft of retail merchandise with the intent to resell the items for financial gain.

Target is putting essentials behind locks, citing rising crime, but the data doesn't back that up.

After waiting 6 minutes for someone to unlock the cabinet so I could buy Pedialyte for my vomiting nephew, I'll just shop elsewhere in the future.

They must know that's going to be the result, so what is the real end goal here?

Target says it's closing 9 stores due to theft. The crime data tells a different story.

On September 26, Target announced it was closing nine stores "because theft and organized retail crime are…contributing to unsustainable business performance." Target said that before making the decision to close stores, it "invested heavily in strategies to prevent and stop theft and organized retail crime." But ultimately, the company asserted, those efforts were not enough to make those stores "successful."
