Police Officer in Netherland Throw a Pregnant Women to The Ground - Lemmy

In the Netherlands, a police officer grabbed a pregnant woman by the arm and hurled her to the ground! Upon seeing his pregnant wife slam into the pavement, her husband attacked the officer. In Amsterdam, other police officers—who had stood by watching as their colleague threw the pregnant woman to the ground—immediately subdued the husband the moment he retaliated.

Washington protesters convicted of “conspiracy to impede” ICE agents

The charges stem from a protest of ICE detention of two Venezuelan immigrants who came to the U.S. legally. Protesters tried to block an ICE vehicle from leaving the field office. No one was hurt.

These are felony convictions with penalties of up to six years in prison and a $250k fine.

No one was hurt.

No property was destroyed.

Three people received felony convictions and may serve years in prison.

And, because we live in a deeply ironic universe, one of those convicted in this farce is named Justice.

Fuck this shit.

Kids are routinely slammed to the ground for minor misbehavior. Police punch children in the face. They shock students with Tasers for being in the wrong place. Or point guns at unarmed teens. Cops put handcuffs on a 6-year-old who later cried to his father, “The police wants me to die!”

It shouldn’t, but somehow it gets worse:

When it comes to the teachers and students whose lives are infused with greater violence and risk because of increased police presence, support for ever-present cops is more surprising. Even with ample evidence of police escalating confrontations and instigating violence against kids of all ages, sources who spoke to the Times reaffirmed the necessity of cops in schools.

“In interviews, dozens of parents, teachers, principals and students said that they believed police officers were needed to keep schools safe,” the Times reported.

For fuck’s sake, fam, can I please get more than horrors in my timeline every fucking morning? What the fuck is wrong with us??

Lack of #ThirdSpaces? #Smartphones taking away #HumanConnection? Seeing through the bullshit and believing they have no future? There's a lot of factors that could be at play here.

#TeenTakeovers push cities to take action as experts see echoes of the Covid pandemic

Teens who have been clashing with cops went into lockdown during their middle school years, when they were learning how to interact with the world around them.

Excerpt: " 'More often than not, it is a desperate need for connection,' he said.

"In addition, Abrams said, teen takeovers swell up fast because many teenagers just have no place else to go. There used to be more of what experts call '#ThirdSpaces' — not home or school — where kids could socialize freely. But spaces that are affordable and welcoming to teenagers are increasingly harder to find, Abrams said.

"Take the library, he said.

" 'We always see plenty of room for senior citizens, plenty of room for adults and programming for adults,' Abrams said. 'We see lots of space for little kids. ... We don’t see as much room for 11-, 12-, 13-year-olds or 16-year-olds.'

"Jasmin Ford, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and clinical instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said teenagers today face a mental health crisis that accelerated during the pandemic and has not returned to pre-Covid levels."

Blame the Covid pandemic for today’s ‘teen takeovers,’ experts say

Teenagers behaving badly in groups is hardly a new thing, experts said. But social media has made it easier to rapidly mobilize this generation of teenagers, who may be craving social interaction and looking for an outlet after having spent their formative years isolated during the Covid pandemic.
