🔐 Every unencrypted email is readable by 10+ entities and stored forever.

Web Key Directory (WKD) changes this: automatic encryption using your domain name. No manual keys. No central servers. Just cryptographic certainty.

WKD makes encrypted email as simple as HTTPS made web browsing secure.

Web Key Directory (WKD): Automatic E-mail Encryption with Your Domain Name

Web Key Directory: the technology that every email domain should adopt to ensure the authenticity and security of communications - TL;DR Why Encryption Is the Foundation of Digital Privacy Encryption is the technology that transforms readable information into incomprehensible code for anyone without the decryption key. It’s what protects banking transactions, government communications, and healthcare data. In the context of the European GDPR, strong encryption also enables the transfer of personal data outside the EU: when data is properly encrypted, individuals are no longer identifiable, simplifying regulatory compliance for international communications. Yet, paradoxically, the world’s most used communication technology – email – remains largely unencrypted, exposing billions of daily messages to potential interception. This article explores how the protocol Web Key Directory (WKD) finally solves this paradox, making email encryption simple and automatic: just as we now visit secure websites (HTTPS) without doing anything special, with WKD emails are also encrypted automatically without any user intervention.

🔑 Just Released: WebKeyDirectory.com – A Free WKD Validation Service 🔑

Exciting news! We just released WebKeyDirectory.com – a free validation service for Web Key Directory (WKD)! 🚀

Web Key Directory (WKD) is a way to automatically discover and retrieve OpenPGP public keys using only an email address. It eliminates the need for manual key exchanges or outdated keyservers, making encrypted email easier, safer, and more user-friendly.

Setting up WKD can be tricky, and misconfigurations are common. That’s why we built WebKeyDirectory.com – a tool to verify and troubleshoot your WKD setup easily, ensuring everything works as expected.

We're excited to share this with the community and help increase WKD adoption! Give it a try and let us know what you think.

💡 Check it out now: https://webkeydirectory.com

Note that the new default is not to download any key-signatures from keyservers. This avoids flooding the local keyring but it won't help against a long taking download of affected keys.

Mail providers are asked to install a #WebKeyDirectory for their users.
