Yesterday I went to Eastern Market to see We Happy Few's performance titled "A Midnight Dreary", adapting three Poe stories for the stage.

The three stories are well-known ones: "The Masque of the Red Death", "The Cask of Amontillado", and "The Tell-tale Heart". "Masque" has a dollop of comedy stirred in, and the other two are presented more straightforwardly.

The stories are presented using only 3 actors. It's an interactive staging: the performance begins in the pre-show waiting area and moves into the black-box stage, and in "Amontillado" they create the underground tunnel on stage and the audience follows the actors through it.

It was a fun evening! Halloween season extends into November for me, and this performance fit nicely into it.

In the last few weeks, I've been playing We Happy Few. Took a while to get into it, but once I'd stealthed my way through a fair few tasks, I really got into it. After about 30 hours of game time, I thought I'd completed the game by escaping the region I'd been trapped in.

Turns out it was the end of Act 1.

The other game I was wanting to play, Death Stranding, was on sale so I installed it last night and started earlier today. I think I was 'playing' for about 2 hours but at least 80% of that was just watching cut scenes. Hoping the promise of "walking simulator" comes good.

In We Happy Few, some players struggled with stealth sections, as simply forgetting to wave back at NPCs would slowly raise their suspicion until they began a fight.

I wonder how many players had a "Huh" moment and learned something about themselves with that mechanic.
