RIGHT-OF-WAY WANTED
For some time past, residents of #Ngaio have taken advantage of a short cut across vacant land to #Wadestown, and so to the city by tram, but notice has now been given by the owners of the land that the practice must be discontinued. Representations have accordingly been made to the City Council by those concerned that such a means of access is of very considerable convenience, and value to residents of Ngaio, and they are therefore asking that the council should consider the provision of a public way

LOCAL AND GENERAL

A serious outbreak of fire occurred in Moorhouse street, #Wadestown, early yesterday morning, when practically the whole of the top floor of Dr. Murray Lichfield’s new two-story [sic] wooden residence was gutted, and the ground floor severely damaged. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. The house was insured in the State Office for £3000 [ca. $360,000 today].
