As this course is taught online only, I have scheduled a voluntary meeting with my students once a week. No pre-registration needed. They may come with their ideas, thoughts and questions or just for listening to the others.
These meetings are very spontaneous in character as I do not know in advance whom I meet or what we are going to discuss. But I like this not plannable occassions very much.

To check that my students have read the course syllabus I hide a minor assignment in it: the students should start a thread in the course plattform and post a picture of an animal (chosen by me). Today the first peace dove has landed.

Making a Difference: Societal Impact through Collaborative Research | Impact Conference

07/04/2025 - 08/04/2025 @ All Day -
Two-day Workshopping Conference for collaborative research experts and those who want to get onto the game!

Collaborating with external partners enables university researchers to study phenomena โ€œup closeโ€ while supporting effective interventions and knowledge transfer. As universities increasingly seek ways to engage with societal sectors, collaborative research practices are gaining attention. One pressing area that demands more collaboration is the digital transition across the public sector and media industries. Organizations in each domain face different challenges posed by the growing use of data and algorithms in daily practice and their implications for building relationships with the public.

One of the best things ever is when you have your students having discussions in smaller groups, and they are all so _good_!
Days like this I _love_ teaching.

This is my office this week. ๐Ÿ˜„

I've been helping to teach the "Advanced Field Ecology" 300-level undergraduate course at #LincolnUniversityNZ.

We spend a week in the Southern Alps based at the Boyle Outdoor Education Centre. Students carry out #ecology research projects they planned last year. We've got all sorts of projects happening, from testing possum monitoring methods to seed predation of daisies to the behaviour of NZ's native water spiders.

Student A: How do I construct these examples from Student B's thesis?

Me: Hmm.

Student B: Hmm.

Me, some hours/days later: Oh I see, you just have to frobnicate the wibble space like this.

Student B: Oh yeah, I just called WibbleFrobnicate

Me: Lol, WibbleFrobnicate was written by Student C in 2017, and I didn't understand it then. Oh well, I guess better late than never.
