For more than 8 years, each year I have upgraded at least one of my robots to the latest Ubuntu, and every year the audio output and input configuration I used the prior year broke.

Days re-reading every Ubuntu audio troubleshooting guide ever published. Eventually I would stumble on something that worked.

This year upgrading to Ubuntu 26.04 again broke GoPiGo3 robot Dave's audio, but this time I had Claude. 15 minutes and he's talking again.

If you upgraded to Ubuntu 26.04, have an old Python script that uses multiprocessing (with no threading), and "ps -ef | grep python" suddenly looks like a war and peace manuscript. In 2 minutes Claude will tell you the secret one line to make Python 3.14 behave like Python 3.12 did for you up until now.

I figured out how make the new GoPiGo3 Raspberry PiOS Trixie install work on Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute Raccoon.

Now I can upgrade my ROS 2 robot “Kilted-Dave” to become “Lyrical-Dave”

Mise à niveau vers Kubuntu LTS 26.04, avec KDE plasma 6.6, depuis une installation fraîche (25.10) :

1. Plein de package KDE se sont désinstallés sans rien me demander : la konsole, le gestionnaire de paquets, les paramètres système, le gestionnaire de fichier, mes éditeurs texte, l'agenda, le gestionnaire internet et son, l'écran de connexion, etc... J'ai pu rétablir, et la config a été conservée, mais c'est pas très user friendly.
2. Le remplacement de X11 par Wayland a failli planter à cause de mes fichiers de clavier personnalisés (qui ont causé des problèmes de droit et bloqué la migration)

-> On dirait que tout marche maintenant, avec quelques nouveautés sympa, notamment le basculement automatique thème clair / thème sombre avec le mode jour/nuit.
-> J'aime beaucoup Kubuntu, mais je trouve que ce n'est pas totalement fiable lors des mises à niveau, faut être prêt à bricoler un peu.

I've been running Ubuntu 26.04 'Resolute Raccoon' on my 'Streaming Fortress' PC
NUC7 - Intel J5005 - 16GB DDR4-2400 RAM - 120GB SSD (2013 Hardware)
for the last two months now.

I put this machine through the wringer: heavy streaming on a bit ambiguous shady sites films and tv series, and running custom 'Fortress' scripts to isolate it completely from my home network.

Despite the hardware being a bit old and the heavy workload, it’s been a flawless experience so far. Even the major updates didn't break my custom scripts or security structure. Well done, Ubuntu team!! 🐧 🫶

On today's episode of ENOENT screams into the void about ubuntu: they broke the xdg desktop portal for gnome in ubuntu 26.04...

If you're rawdogging the dev version of ubuntu like me you'll want to not `apt upgrade` until the fix in here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-desktop-portal-gnome/+bug/2138284 is fully released.

KDE, sway etc. are probably unaffected
