"Tokelau is New Zealand’s last and only remaining colony, and this month marks 100 years of that imperial relationship. While the relationship continues to be framed by Tokelau leaders as a “partnership”, the reality is somewhat different, writes Melanie Puka Bean, assistant professor at the University of Utah and New Zealand-born tagata Tokelau."

@pezmico Don't forget #Tokelau which declared itself fully renewably powered in 2013 due to solar power project funded by Aotearoa New Zealand government. In 2020 that funding and the #SolarPower system had to be renewed to cope with marine environment wear and tear.

Many environmentalists asked in 2013, if NZ Govt can do this for Tokelau, why not do it for Aotearoa? Usual answer: size and cost of project.
