Chris BoeseWell, my watching #LuckyHank didn’t last too long. If you’re gonna skewer English Depts, 1. You need to be clever enough not to just parody the low-hanging fruit, becuz altho they are eminently parody-able, English profs actually ARE more clever than the average bear, and 2. You need to do more than rehash #TheChair with the wonderful Sandra Oh (which I also couldn’t watch for the same reason).

我想提一下作为这个剧背景的#cancelculture 的话题。在剧中，bill因为在课上讲解法西斯主义时随手做了个纳粹军礼，被学生录下来传播之后引起了轩然大波，最终波及到了作为系主任的智恩。
在看这部剧的时候我觉得非常难受，一方面我身体里的右派强调这不是真的歧视、而是一种戏谑和调侃，言论自由应当保障这种表达的权利；一方面我身体里的左派则主张这种戏谑是对受难者的不尊重、是多数族裔和强话语权群体对苦难的轻描淡写（比如，在提及731部队时，我们可不可以做出象征活剖受害者的手势？）。
这让我想到今年年初另一个事件：
虽然父权社会把做饭视为女性义务，但一旦这项工作被专业化（比如法餐和日料）（中餐也别想跑），又会非常明显地排斥女性。在这一背景下，汉堡王做了一个事件营销，以「women belong in the kitchen」为口号去address这个issue。但很明显的，这个word play backfired了，汉堡王遭到了舆论的反对，于是撤下campaign、发声道歉。
