In my own Quest to Survive, my #kitchen has been the nerve-centre of designing/creating/building/modifying things to help me stay alive through the crisis of the moment, as well as as more obvious ongong crises such as extreme heat, terrible air quality, etc.

In some cases, #OffTheShelf technology to mitigate an issue exists, but (for example) both #poverty and #lease requirements prevent me from acquiring energy-efficient cooling technology.

Even if I pay 100% of the cost of buying and installing a #window #AirConditioner, it means a breach of lease and possible #eviction.

Given that I'm pretty sure I would not survive many days of being #unhoused (due to #MedicalConditions and #disability-management challenges, not due to any fellow unhoused neighbours), I have worked very hard to figure out other ways to mitigate heat in my unit.

New rules for landlords coming as Waterloo set to introduce renoviction bylaw
The City of Waterloo will introduce a renoviction bylaw next year that aims to better protect tenants and prevent renovictions in the city. Landlords will need to obtain a licence when they issue an N13 notice for renovations requiring the unit to be vacant.

How's this for landlord arrogance?

Auckland landlord Ankit Arora installed CCTV in his tenant’s lounge which recorded both video and audio. In their lounge!

When the tenancy ended, the landlord took the tenant to the Tenancy Tribunal over 'unpaid rent'. He argued that having a permanent livestream from the lounge was just “protecting his property”.

That's where it went bad for him. He must pay the tenant a total of $6,600 for various privacy infringements. I'd say the adjudicator whacked him as hard as they possibly could.

Awesome! NSW tenants laws have changed to give more reasonable protections to tenants.

The relet exclusion periods are a good hard mechanism to stop spurious eviction followed by renting out at a higher rate.
