In the US, #postal General Delivery is a very important service to understand, and it's made very difficult to find information about. #Unhoused people and others without a residential address can receive #letters and #packages at a single specific post office in each city.
Figuring out which post office it is requires detective work: the only way I've found is to wrestle with the voicemail at 1-800-ASK-USPS until the system turns you over to a human, then ask for the General Delivery location for your specific city.
You need to complete a form at that post office to receive General Delivery mail. Then senders address things like this:

Recipient's Name
**General Delivery**
City, ST ZIP# of General Delivery post office.

For anyone in #DC the General Delivery post office is 900 Brentwood Rd NE, ZIP Code 20018

Recipients collect their #mail from the post office by requesting it by name at the counter.

I will be #unhoused in 10 days, and likely sooner, as it does not look like my name will come up on any of the #housing lists I've applied to.

I'm not going to be able to do this. I so scared, my anxiety is going to be paralyzing. I see why people who've been unhoused for any length of time lose their grip on themselves.

Have any of you ever used dry #shampoo that you leave in? I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say they've used it.

It sounds gross, but I need to investigate it due to the #unhoused thing.

If at some point you have to deal with someone ranting about NYC spending $81,000 per homeless person last year for a total of $368 million here is a way to shut their mouth.

Ask them how they feel about paying $6.9 million A DAY to house immigrants.

That's $2,5 BILLION a year.
Almost 7 times what NYC spends.

Because that's what ICE centers cost to all taxpayers every year.

Just saw this story on the local news. Let me guess... The deceased went to the #WinterWarmingShelter to find it closed, then froze to death. Also, allegedly the shelter has 37 employees. You mean to tell me all of them called in sick when there was #WinterWeather? NO EXCUSE!

Human remains found behind #Homeless Services Center in #PortlandME

"Decomposed human remains were discovered Thursday morning in a wooded area behind the Homeless Services Center in Portland, police said.

"Officers were called to 654 Riverside Ave. at about 8:42 a.m. on March 19 after receiving a report of the remains, which were found behind the building, according to a press release from the Portland Police Department.

"Police said the remains appeared to have been there for a 'significant amount of time.'

"Officials said at this time, the death does not appear suspicious.

"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still determining the cause and manner of death. Police are working to identify the deceased, according to the release."
