I have no artistic skills. Which is sad, because I have GREAT visualizations; I dream amazing things, but I can't depict them in anything other than words.

But if I •could• draw, I'd make a Mao-style poster (lots of red) portraying peasants bayonetting landlords.

#Maine Court Slams #Landlords, Confirms #RentControlLaws Initiated by #MaineDSA

Posted by Ethan Strimling | Apr 10, 2026

"On March 18, a Maine Superior Court judge summarily rejected the latest attempt by landlords to gut Portland’s rent control law and stifle the power of tenant unions. In fact, in her sweeping decision, Justice Darcie McElwee solidified rent control’s power to keep rents affordable in Maine’s largest city in a way many of us have been fighting for since it was enacted.

This is a big moment, and Portland administrators, as well as those looking to confront the housing affordability crisis across the state (I’m looking at you, candidates for governor), should take notice."

#Beirut will recover, but what urban realty is formed through repeated cycles of war, and who will inhabit it ?
Since late 2024, more than a million people in #Lebanon have been displaced. In a country of six million, this movement alters how space is inhabited and organized.

War and the Production of Space: Notes from Beirut | The Brooklyn Rail

Since late 2024, more than a million people in Lebanon have been displaced at different moments of the conflict. In a country of around six million, this scale of movements is equivalent to displacing over 57 million people in the United States, fundamentally altering how space is inhabited and organised. The changes I observe do not only reflect the disruption of the old urban scene, they point to war as a mode of spatial production.
