Looking for FREE tax prep recommendations.

What I was using is no longer free, so I have to switch, which I'm not happy about. Filing online already triggers my anxiety. For decades, I did it myself by hand.

Regardless, it has to be done.

*I avoid subscriptions.

My needs are straightforward:
• I claim only me
• SS income
• small pension
• interest income
• must file a MT return, too

Any suggestions?

Need to file taxes, soon. I've been using #TurboTax (Deluxe) most of my tax-filing life. #Intuit's fucking scummy as hell, so, thought I'd see what my other options were. #H&RBlock isn't any cheaper than TT, plus, they're probably no less scummy than Intuit is.

I prefer something that runs local to my desktop/laptop, allows me to file both state and federal and will deal properly with my brokerage accounts and the like. Anyone got #recommendations for such #TaxSoftware?

I would love to have a Linux-native Canadian tax app, but they don't exist to the best of my knowledge. I've been using Windows versions of various tax packages (BisonTax, TurboTax, now Ufile) in a virtual machine I keep for just that purpose.

The Windows versions of Ufile don't have a particularly fancy UI; they might run okay under Wine, but I've not tried. It's also possible it would refuse to run on anything but a real Windows installation because of the CRA certification or something.
