People seemingly believe whatever they want to believe and cling to their beliefs even if it means they are going down with it!
It's not strength to knowingly act against your best interest, it's stupidity!
Stop π the myth that Republicans have an edge over Democrats on economic policies and Democrats are all about #TaxAndSpend. In reality, it's just the other way around ...
"Inflation is back down, growth remains strong at 3%, unemployment is low at 4.1% with the U.S. having created almost 7 million more jobs than it had before the pandemic. The stock market is hitting all-time highs. ... many Americans are getting sizable pay raises, and middle-class wealth has surged to record levels.β The Federal Reserve has begun to cut interest rates, and foreign leaders are talking about the U.S. economy with envy... As I read about this Lib Dem proposal and Labour's refusal to deny possible increases in capital gains tax, I find myself hoping that the UK is getting ready to move in a progressive direction on taxation.
Although tax-and-spend should never be considered the whole of social democratic politics, it nonetheless remains matters. Just discussing is important, as it helps weaken the Thatcherite taboo on the redistribution of wealth.
Starmer and Reeves are not prepared to go as far as I would like in a redistributive direction, but their ministry will offer both an improvement on that of the Tories and an opportunity to restart a long term push for better taxation policies and an updated and more generous welfare state.
It won't be easy, because of opposition from within Labour by the likes of Mandelson, but progress is possible.
