In poker there’s a move called “Buying the pot”. This is when one person makes a very large bet in an attempt to discourage others from continuing the hand. But what if we’re not talking poker? What if we’re talking permit fees for the use of your own land? That is exactly what George Sheetz sued the County of El Dorado California for.

can I call the new police force paid for with a surcharge attached ro my utility bill in July 2024, to "arrest the city" which took 300 ft/2 frontage from my lot to install a new water main in 2023. My attorney sent me a New Years card promising hot pursuit. I think I am in a #simulation. #Oregon #ImminentDomain #CyberneticHellBeings #Today #takings #Madness #SAD

#Disney is not suing #RonDeSantis in his personal capacity for money, but in his official capacity to undo the scheme to punish Disney for exercise of its #1stAmendment rights (also, the right to #contract, #DueProcess, and the #Takings clause). Basic #USConstitution stuff every American should know about and realize Ron DeSantis was deeply in the wrong.

The Second Circuit upheld rent stabilization today, setting the stage for a showdown in the US Supreme Court. The decisions were a straightforward application of #takings law, but #SCOTUS is itching to change the law in this area, as evidenced by its shadow docket ruling overturing the COVID eviction moratorium. If they do, millions will be evicted in NYC, so this is very high stakes: https://www.law360.com/appellate/articles/1573102/2nd-circ-affirms-constitutionality-of-rent-stabilization-in-ny
2nd Circ. Affirms Constitutionality Of Rent Stabilization In NY - Law360

The Second Circuit on Monday affirmed a consolidated 2020 New York federal court opinion upholding the constitutionality of the state's rent stabilization law as amended in 2019, finding that the law does not amount to a taking of landlords' property.

Yep. Tenant lawyers have a particular interest in jurisdiction-stripping schemes as part of #SCOTUS reform. In particular, it would help me sleep at night if Congress were to overrule Knick v. Twp of Scott, require that all state remedies be exhausted before making a takings claim, require dismissal in the absence of actual monetary injury (overruling Cedar Point Nursery), and require a unanimous verdict in any SCOTUS case involving #takings. That's all I want for Christmas.
