I just had to do a power reset on a ThinkPad T490s laptop.

It was not turning on with just battery and not being plugged in with the power adapter. It would turn on if I plugged the charger in. The battery had a charge.

I took the back plate off, disconnected the battery. Held the hidden power reset button in for thirty seconds, then held the power button down for thirty seconds. Plugged the internal battery back in.

Now it turns on when power button is pressed while not plugged into a charger.

As my followers may remember, I bought a refurbished ThinkPad T490s from the German retailer Thinkstore24.de at the beginning of June. It looked like new, but unfortunately it had defective speakers and I made a complaint about it.

Thinkstore24 immediately sent me a return label for UPS, two days later it was back at the dealer, who repaired it and sent it back on Monday. It arrived today and everything is finally working. Really fast, competent and problem-free service, chapeau!

Windows 11 Pro is still pre-installed on a small 256 GB SSD, but I still have a 1 TB Samsung SSD lying around, so I'm going to put that in and Fedora Linux on it! Let's get started!

Unfortunately, I have to return the “new” ThinkPad T490s... The speakers make a terrible noise.

Thinkstore24 has offered to send me replacement speakers, which would be ok in itself, and they are easy to replace - only the cables lead under the mainboard, where the connection is located. That means I would have to dismantle the entire T490s. And I certainly don't want to do that. The old models like the T420 are easy to disassemble, but these new ones are extremely difficult to repair.

Too bad... Now I'm waiting for Monday to see if they have a suitable replacement device for exchange. Or maybe even a slightly newer one like the T14s. I'll wait and see. But it's all a bit annoying.

Despite all the frustration, I went to pick up the package... at least the ThinkPad is now with Daddy... it's a nice thing, the T490s... 😍

Saw a ThinkPad T490s at a friend's house the day before yesterday, looked at it, tried it out... and I liked it. Slim form factor, light, robust...

And what did I do today? I have now also bought a refurbished ThinkPad T490s, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB NVMe, LTE... even though I didn't want to buy a “newer” ThinkPad. I'm so impressionable when it comes to computers... 🤪

I have a #thinkpad #t490s and a few days ago, the trackpoint and the buttons above touchpad stopped working overnight. It doesn't seem to be a software issue, I tried booting off various operating systems from a usb stick and no luck there either. I tried re-seating the connector, but that didn't help. Any suggestions? #question

For #lenovo #thinkpad #t480 #t480s #t490 #t490s #t440 #t470 etc. #tseries under #nixOS does a/the #LTE #cellular #modem (e.g. #Fibocom #L830-EB #4G LTE #WWAN Modem) work without special measures i.e. does it "appear" in the GUI OS e.g. #gnome & become available for use automatically on installation or update of nixOS e.g. by running update of configuration in usual way? Are there special options in configuration.nix one has to set first? Even then, does it work? Anyone have LTE success here?
