@denisbloodnok @siina regardless, #SystemD does boot faster simply because it doesn't go strictly linear but parallelizes startups and does dependency resolution on services.

Cuz original #SysVinit s slow af.

  • The only reason it's not feeling slow anymore is because we don't rock 2,5" 5400rpm IDE HDDs in laptops anymore but even most "budget" SSDs can saturate SATA-6G during reads, if not exceed it even in worst-case scenarios.
    • And the only reason I didn't put systemd into @OS1337 as of now is the fact that I can't make it fit!

Linux From Scratch Drops System V Init, Calls Decision Regrettable

Linux From Scratch reluctantly confirms a systemd-only future, ending System V init development due to mounting maintenance pressure and upstream changes.

Linuxiac
@WindOfChange @BrodieOnLinux I do criticise shit all the time, but most of the criticism against #Wayland, #SystemD, #PipeWire & Co. is just neighsaying from people that refused to #DoBetter in spite of being able to do so but claw themselves on #legacy stuff like #Xorg and #SystemVinit or in case of #Devuan do everything but #SystemD and would rather integrate #SMF which is equally "bloaty" than admit being wrong.

@BrodieOnLinux I guess people hating #Wayland are the same folks that hate #SystemD or even #PipeWire whilst refusing to #DoBetter themselves:

#Toxic #Neighsayers that refuse to acknowledge that #Xorg, #SystemVinit and #ALSA / #OSS are bad.

Instead they create redundant work that noone cares and that only.pulls resources from improving mainlike #Linux.

Or does anyone use #Devuan in any business-critical application?

@debacle @zakiuem @disabled @gamercat @ubuntu #Devuan is just a #hategrooming bubble against #Poettering.
#systemd is just their pretext to do so.

I just think that Devuan is an utter waste if time and personnel hours.that could've been spent way better on making #Linux generally better...

Cuz I've yet to see anyone wanting #SystemVinit back.
Not even #Oracle / #Sun want it in #Solaris (#SMF) nor #Apple in #macOS (#LaunchD)...

@rydia #Devuan is an absolute bs and utter waste of resources.

Not to mention even classic #Unix like #Solaris & #macOS use similar systems - #SMF & #LauchD respectably.

NOONE wants to use #SystemVinit + manually fidding with daemons, and #systemd just works!

@ncommander Cuz #SystemVinit sucks ass!

I know from experience!!!
