Built in the 1970s, #SBB🇨🇭#SwissExpress trains worked the most prestigious domestic services in Switzerland. Providing mainly open plan seating, a small portion in 1st class was organised in compartments though. They ended their career on regional trains for #BLS. Pictures from May 2018.

A screenshot from the #Zurich🇨🇭HB webcam footage this morning: #SBB #Re420 Re4/4 11109, in #SwissExpress #Cremeschnitte livery, is pulling the colourful consist of #Euronight #Canopus from #Prague 🇨🇿 away from the platform and to the yard. The train also conveys #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #nightjet through cars from Berlin 🇩🇪.

June 1981: for the first time, lunch on board a #Swiss🇨🇭#SBB @diningcar. It was a #SwissExpress EW III train. I kept the bill as a souvenir: it includes the diner’s road number: WR 34002 (UIC number 50 85 88-34 002-8). I had a pork cutlet (CHF 15.50) and a soft drink (CHF 2.30).

#Basel🇨🇭#SBB station, one evening in August 2020: the #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #nightjet train to #Berlin 🇩🇪 and #Hamburg has just arrived from #Zurich, hauled by a #Swiss class 420 Re4/4II loco in #SwissExpress “Cremeschnitte” livery.

🚄🍽️ Starting the morning ☀️ with breakfast on the @diningcar onboard the IC 1 from Genève to St. Gallen 🇨🇭, the old #SwissExpress route. Fresh pastries 🥐, bread 🍞 with butter 🧈 and mermelade as well as crunchy müesli, and Cailler hot chocolate ☕️.

#SwissExpress🇨🇭 liveried #SBB Re 4/4 II electric #11108 is seen here at #Zurich main station in April 2006, ready to work an afternoon #EuroCity train bound for #Salzburg 🇦🇹. At Buchs (SG) an ÖBB loco will take over. Because of the layer of “cream” paint this locomotive is nicknamed #Cremeschnitte by railfans.

La #Chaux-de-Fonds🇨🇭to #Bern on a #BLS regional express service in June 2018: the push-pull trainset is in full “#Kambly livery” - a popular cookie brand in Switzerland. The cars are of the “EW III” type, originally built for the cross-country #SwissExpress in the 1970s - the best domestic #Intercity trains back then: they came with air condition even for passengers is 2nd class.
