The superglue-on-alu held fine.

Calibrating against a laser level. Its easier than a transparent hose with water. Glued down the bubble on one end, shaved away some plastic so the other can move a little, aligned roughly, add a drop of glue, align, let glue dry and re-check.

The horizontal bubble is correct now and nothing wobbles or moves anymore.

Just needs repeating for the other two.

What fun can be had by buying crap tools! 🤪

Many problems.

The bubble levels (Libellen [Dragonflies] in German) were only glued on one end, so they could also move.

And the black part was insufficiently glued with just one dot, so that moved.

And the aluminium wasn't attached at all, just kinda wobbling around the yellow plastic bit.

So I glued one half together to have a fixed edge to calibrate the bubbles against.

Superglue doesn't work too great on aluminium, so if it pops off I'll use some PU instead, but I locked it in around both edges so it might work.

The calibration seems to be done with superglue. I have that. Lets see if it can be improved.

Hmm, which one can you trust? 🥺

Fitting blinds, I now realise why when I refitted a radiator a few months ago it looked wonky. The radiator's not wonky, the whole window bay, window and sill is about 1 degree out of true. #DIY #spiritlevel #laserleveling
On August 15th, we started the restoration of our approximately 100-year-old spirit level. That day, we successfully removed the brass cover. Today, we carefully extracted the glass vial, which, as you can see in the pictures, was held in place by gypsum. We then cleaned the vial before moving on to the wooden part. The wood was first cleaned with soapy water to remove the most stubborn dirt, like emulsion paint. Finally, we used sanding pads to rub away the old grime from the wood.

"This “hubris of the ultra-wealthy,” The Spirit Level at 15 observes, “is destroying our world.”
We can put some chilling numbers on that destruction: Our richest 1 percent worldwide, the new Equality Trust report points out, are now emitting “as much greenhouse gas emissions” as our world’s poorest 66 percent combined.
Shrinking that “massive environmental footprint” of the world’s richest, the Equality Trust analysis stresses, “must be recognized as indispensable to controlling the climate crisis.”

From the UK, a New Reminder Why Inequality Must Go

Inequality, note Wilkinson and Pickett, heightens hierarchy and reinforces the notion that some people — rich people — have more intrinsic value than people of more modest means. Within this unequal social reality, “people worry more about how they’re seen and judged.” Status rules supreme, leaving some among us “overcome with a sense of inadequacy and depression” while a fortunate few view life through an exceptionally narcissistic lens.
