And here I found myself again, now high school age, standing on a gymnastics beam, assisting not Sarah from nursery school, or the kid who fell in elementary school, but Leah Fosse, the star gymnast of our high school team. I was underpinning her ankle and knee as she held herself in an #arabesque . Her legs were shaved, but the rest of her body glowed in the low lighting with an aura of lanugo. Noticing it and knowing it to be an indication of an underlying eating disorder, I felt a pang of guilt for any assumptions of popular-girl privilege I might’ve ever held against her. Suddenly, swarms of what appeared to be palm-sized renderings of the familiar orange-haired spiders and beige-colored blob-like beings from before began marching out from under the mats in the hundreds and the thousands. As they jumped over and scuttled under us both on the beam, the spiders and blobs grew in size with such rapidity that within moments Leah and I were gyroscopically encompassed. Leah fell from the beam and disappeared. The spiders and blobs then began passing me to each other as if I were a baton. Somehow, I inherently knew that I was being given the choice of returning or not through a swirling, wooded hollows their circumvolving had presented through the opening at the far end of a vortex. I felt tired, I felt emotionally tired, and like I didn't care to go through there one way or the other. It was like they’d knocked and I responded only half-enthused and so that was all they offered me. 5/6

Simulating Dissociation: The Psychedelic Experience and Videogame Space

This essay details original game design experiments inspired by psychedelic experiences and discusses the history of games designed with influence from psychedelic drugs and culture.

I once took nature’s most powerful hallucinogens on-camera for a TV show.

With Salvia Divinorum, ‘I’ dissolved entirely. The very idea of a continuous ‘self’ became absurd. Time looped. Nothing meant ANYTHING.

This timeline of Trump Does & Also Doesn’t Put Tariffs On Things is a bit like that.

Trips and neurotransmitters: Discovering principled patterns across 6850 hallucinogenic experiences (Ballantine, et al, 2022) - Lemmy.World

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/12482573 [https://lemmy.world/post/12482573] > The dominant factor spanned a continuum of experiential facets whose opposite extreme flagged words that appear to describe mental expansion, including the terms universe, space, world, consciousness, breakthrough, existence, earth, dimension, reality, flame, and tunnel—all of which would be consistent with the phenomenology of the mystical experience (3). References to liminal conscious beings, also characteristic of the mystical experience, were described by the terms entity, sitter, alien, beings, and spirit. A theme of immediate time horizon was indicated by the term seconds and also suggested by references to bodily systems such as eyes and lungs, along with physiological functions inhale(d), exhaled, and breath. At the level of neurotransmitter receptors, this constellation of induced conscious alterations was linked most strongly with drugs that preferentially bind to D1, 5-HT7, KOR, 5-HT5A, as well as Sigma-1 and NMDA. The codependencies embedded in this profile of receptor bindings and subjective terms were most closely associated with the hallucinogenic drugs DMT, salvinorin A, 5-MeO-DMT, and ketamine. The anatomical brain regions that coexpress these sets of receptor density proxies included some of the highest regions of the association cortex, especially the rostral and dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, temporoparietal junction, and also prominently in the primary motor and sensory cortices. >

Day 5: This little #jumpingspider enjoyed basking on a leaf, in the early sun rays, for several days. She seemed curiously chill and not afraid of me and my bulky lens; the fact this was a Diviner's Sage plant (#salviadivinorum) was probably a coincidence.
