From yesterday: all species I've really only found on/immediately near those tall pine trees with red bark. The pretty yellow/gold/silver jumping spider _Eris floridana_; a tiny _Admestina_ jumping spider with a flattened, speckled body; and a mite from the family Erythracaridae (I'm calling it, I feel pretty sure).
I have found these even in rather bare, shabby, pissed-in areas that get a lot of human foot traffic, normally not a great place to find bugs!
Another kind of arachnid that seems to like the pine trees are opilionids, in the fall when they get big and mate.

Went down to the lake today and found several zebra jumping spiders (_Salticus scenicus_) feasting on the midges (_Chironomus_ sp.) that are beginning to emerge!
â ïž WARNING: first pic in particular is alarmingly cute, prepare yourself

Bagheera kipling has the most herbivorous diet out of any spider, feeding on the Beltian bodies that acacia trees of Central America produce for "their" ants, species that they have a symbiotic relationship with. These little spiders seem to like them too though... even if they're guarded very well by the acacia ants!
Black and white version (it's a work in progress) of an illustration for a Cactus di Fuoco Book!
If you can read Italian, you can find the beta version of the book here: https://www.wattpad.com/1348201319-il-ragno-che-tesseva-racconti-1-la-bambina-e-il
Otherwise, wait a little while, because the book will soon be translated and published (all illustrated by us!) on Amazon.
Hello, I am a spider. Will you be my friend?

I photographed this little guy on the weekend in Ćtautahi-Christchurch city, NZ. It's an Australian Bronze Hopper, Helpis minitabunda. Introduced accidentally to NZ, it now occurs throughout the North Island and upper to middle South Island.
This species is unusual amongst spiders in that the male is larger than the female.
