I've got an old mini bike with a Briggs 2HP engine on it. The pull start shroud broke and a replacement is like $50. There are newer engines locally for $75-100 but they're more like 5HP. Is that too big for a kid's toy?

It starts and runs but never comes off slow idle.

Joe HeafnerI have a Toro 22-inch self-propelled mower model 20334 with SN beginning with 4068. If anyone knows the size of the bolts holding the electric starter assembly to the engine block, could you please tell me? I’ve lost one while mowing and even the local Toro dealer couldn’t tell me. I just tried 1/4-20 and it’s too small (diameter). I’m thinking it’s probably 3/8 but I can’t find docs saying that. I can’t get to the other one w/o taking a lot of things apart. What would make a trimmer/weed Wacker stop working from one week to the next? It wo4ked fine but now I can't start it.
I changed the fuel, changed the spark plug, and took the air filter off. My last guess is a blockage in the fuel line.
Ryan ✨ PavlikOh man, the leaf vacuum engine yesterday was about two pulls of the starter rope from being replaced by a Harbor Freight Predator engine when it finally started after probably 45min of tinkering and pulling. Plug was all gooped up, oil pretty black, it's a tired 5hp Briggs from 1988, but I only use it a few times a year. Still will probably replace it since I've already put a bunch of work into rehabbing it only for it to not start well in the cold. #smallengine
Bob JonkmanHi #SmallEngine Fediverse: Dad bought a riding mower, used it for one season before he died a year ago. I'm cleaning out the garden shed, but can't start the engine. Charged the battery overnight, and the starter turned over making a rattly noise. Thought maybe the battery was almost dead & wouldn't hold a charge so I hooked it up to my car battery with jumper cables, but the starter wouldn't even turn over. Is the mower completely dead? What can I try next?
