Re: Why does niri stop network connection on idle while sway does not?
Since most of my posts about #niri here have been a bit scattered I thought I would take some time to document what I have setup on Slackware current (non-systemd).
My main problem with niri is that idle is not detected properly as it is with sway, and will kick in while I am typing, in a video call, or seemingly at random. I could live with this, but my network connection is disrupted each time niri launches swayidle unlike sway which does not exhibit this behavior.
Most of the way things are setup to launch is so that screen capture will work.
I don't think any of the configuration accurately...
I'm using Firefox (based) browser on most of my computers but whenever I'm on my Slackware, I'm using Fallkon. And have no issues.
Is this the sign for me to switch? No, obviously not, because I also have a Windows machine I have to use (at work) so Firefox is more multi platform option. Plus the synchronization.
But it's nice to use something else.
@alien alas probably not! From the front they look the same but now I've only got what I want installed and very little of what I don't. It served me well but I wanted to trim the fat plus consolidate updates with another machine which already runs #gentoo
I also have a fileserver which will stay #slackware for the forseeable future.
Spent the last 24 hours moving my main desktop from #slackware to #gentoo. I'm a few bits and pieces short but I've got a very lean and solid foundation now.
I had no real problems with slackware but it was time for a refresh - although to be honest the process was somewhat tedious and it just feels oddly unsatisfying.
At least it was an appropriately rainy and shitty 24 hours for it, plus I was home to catch my illuminated magnifier before it set the house on fire (charred a cutting board!)
