@jloc0 I was at some point going to install your #kde6 but I realised it was gone when I did an update/upgrade and Falkon was using Qt5.
So I took the plunge and installed #ktown It's working fine and falkon behaves now. Running as the wayland session. I'm not a huge fan of big DEs but I'll keep it around until/if it ever makes -current.

BTW, @r1w1s1 I ran the check depends script and about the same as amount as last time is slightly broken. All apps still functional though.

The new #mpd frontend is starting to take shape, however it is really still in the concept phase. Right now all the setup is done with #pyqt6 then it hands over to #quickshell via a Popen() call, where the pid is saved and everything dies (reasonably) gracefully on exit.

What needs to be done is the integration of the QML gui into the python scripts via QtQuick. That will really bring it out of concept and into development 🤓

@opensuse Slackware in 1994, must've been 1.2 originally and then updated/augmented with 2.0 material (gcc, TeX and whatnot). Install floppies downloaded over a modem line, ranging from 9600-14400bps. Those were fun times, but the download part I do not miss 😆

Soon got into the habit of building my own kernels, leading into running the development kernel of the day for several years. I guess it grew old around the time Linux became a day job.

TIL that #Slackware 11.0's ISO was removed from https://mirrors.slackware.com/slackware/slackware-iso

Saw a discussion on Reddit (gross) where people were freaking out about it.

Like, you know you can just go to slackware.uk or even one directory up on the official mirror, and go to slackware-11.0/isolinux and make your own ISO, where you can choose what package sets you want, right?

It's not the end of the world for Slackware users, you know. They probably just had to clear some storage space 🥀

Milestone complete! Slackware AArch64 installed on the RPi5 using mainline Linux 6.18. What would once have taken weeks of R&D took just a few hours with ChatGPT. It's been fun!

There remain upstream RPi5 issues - the pin controller causes an instant hang, but compiling out the offending module and applying a small patch to the DTS got things moving.

ChatGPT made some comical errors though - suggesting I wipe out the RPi boot loader config with debug logs 🙂

Just switched to mtm (Micro Terminal Multiplexer) a suckless-style terminal multiplexer that does ONE thing: split panes. No sessions, no bloat, just ~1000 lines of clean C code.

The codebase is surprisingly readable and well-organized... unlike larger projects where you get lost in abstraction layers, mtm's simplicity makes it an excellent study resource for learning C.
You can actually understand the entire program flow in a reasonable amount of time.

Bonus: there's already a SlackBuild available, so Slackware users can integrate it seamlessly into their system without manual compilation headaches.
If you want tmux functionality without tmux complexity, check it out.

@garpu mine was still in the "off" position after I migrated to a new #Slackware laptop this weekend... but I copied my complete $HOME - so it is understandable. I have now enabled hardware acceleration in #libreoffice and everything still works!
Ich habe #Slackware vergessen. Ich glaube in der Zeit zwischen Suse und Debian. Ich bin mir aber nicht mehr sicher.
