Living near Route 66 has its perks. Like seeing the Ketchup Bottle and murals in Collinsville, Illinois. Rode past these today. #BrooksKetchupBottle #Route66 #MotherRoad #GetYourKicksOnRoute66 #RoadsideAmerica

Roadside America

A miniature village created by Laurence Gieringer in 1935 in his home. But with growing interest Geringer purchased land in Shartlesville, Pennsylvania where the display opened to the public in 1953.

In 2020 Roadside America announced that they were closing permanently and auctioning off the display.

My family visited this wonderful site often in the 60s - a great memory from my childhood

@jcrabapple if you’re looking to add offbeat/quirky stops to your trip then https://www.roadsideamerica.com can be pretty fun. No Android app, alas, but they do have resources on the website. #roadsideamerica
Another #NorthDakota oddity: the Viking on Pyramid Hill. Sitting outside of the small town of Fort Ransom, the Viking statue was erected in 1972. The hill’s origin and symmetry are much debated topics.
