Billionaires Are Killed by a Virus in Mary Elizabeth Winstead Movie Rich Flu Trailer
Watched Rich Flu (2024) last night. Getting a mediocre reception atm, but I loved it. It's a silly premise on the surface. Rich people start dying based on how wealthy they are. But the story runs with it and serves up lots of allegory in the process.
It is a merciless attack on the establishment and the rich and powerful, which means it likely won't be viewed well among those who aspire to be a part of that #RichFlu
Edit: a search told me this film is 2024 and has been around for a year! It definitely deserves better numbers
A strange disease kills off some of the richest and most influential people on the planet. First it was the billionaires, then the multi-millionaires and so on progressively... Then it threatens to strike anyone with any sort of fortune. With the whole world panicking, people try to flood the market with assets the world no longer wants.
„While there are occasional nods to Friedrich von Hayek and praise for free markets, the film quickly descends into absurdity, leaving viewers wondering whether they are watching “class struggle” or „Sharknado“.“ #RichFlu

Check out my #letterboxd review of #RichFlu. Although the film is pretty messed up, I still think it's important because it shows the critical state of cinema critical of capitalism and we need to talk about this current state. https://boxd.it/99Papv
Fredric Jameson's famous quote needs to be modified a little: "It is easier to picture a Chihuahua hurled into the turbine of a passing airplane than to envision the end of capitalism.” #RichFlu

We need to talk about the current state of criticism of capitalism Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is a filmmaker of stark imagery. With his Netflix hit „El Hoyo“, he created a brutal allegory of class struggle, sparking considerable hype during the pandemic. In „Rich Flu“, he remains true to his socially critical approach, but this time delivers a chaotic story about a mysterious disease that only affects the ultra-rich, plunging society into chaos. The film seems to be a metaphor for the inability to imagine a world beyond capitalism—or perhaps it’s just an absurd fantasy, reflecting the film’s overall quality. Alternatively, Rich
