Trails follow the particles, which respond to user motion and fluid sim, so you can swish them around a bit as they spawn in.

Added a random offset to each particle clone to make it easer to test at my desk - kinda fun having the clones pop up all over the place so I'll keep it as an option toggle in the effect.

Just messing with the lava particles now they have a nicer colour reaction to motion. Comparing the fluid sim "Default" preset (100% vorticity confinement) to "DefaultSmooth" (0% vorticity). You lose a bunch of twiddly bits but gain more coherence in the medium scale motion and form.
