Something I often think about when I visit the #NewRiverValley is the disused railroad bridge across the New River between Radford University and the Virginia Tech golf course. I recognize that they are separate and competing athletics organizations and it is always hard to collaborate across organizational structures, but I can imagine some pretty big benefits to recreation and student athletics in connecting the two #virginia #RailsToTrails #RadfordVA #VATech #RadfordRiverwayTrail #BikeTooter

Checking out the #helene #flooding damage in #RadfordVA. Most of the flood plain here is in public park. A bunch of signs, fences, trees, and play equipment are damaged or carried away but the park is here and people are enjoying it. Looks like maybe 12 to 15 feet of water went through above the flood plain

Such fun to see Thomas Jefferson (Clay Jenkinson) in person after listening to him on the radio for years.
The #NorthDakota-originating #ThomasJeffersonRadioHour is carried by WVRU in #RadfordVa., where Jenkinson spoke Wednesday night. He responded to audience questions in character as Jefferson, and as himself, especially to questions about slavery-related "asterisks" to the 3rd president's reputation.
Veteran #WVRU D.J. (and mayor) David Horton co-hosted the show.

Test: Do the #NewRiver, #NewRiverValley (#NRV) or only #NewRiverGorge -- National Park -- get much mention here?
Hearing folk singers and Bluegrass bands up North sing "Riding on that New River Train" (catchy tune) I pictured a "new train" that ran along some River.

Did not realize my mistake until I moved to Southwestern #Virginia and discovered I was in the New River Valley, in fact living in #RadfordVa, "the New River City," bounded on 3 sides by the curvy river.

I've just been here for a few days, experimenting with hashtags a little differently than on Fb or birdapp -- to find old #newspaper #CommSchool and #OldtimeMusic friends and #swVa #swVirginia #FloydVa #RadfordVa #NewRiverValley neighbors.
