Updated the firmware of my #RME Digiface USB and also ticked the "CC Mode Active" box so that it's now a class compliant device. Ardour has no issues with it but PulseAudio on my Debian 12 system refuses to talk to it.

I kind of expected this as the USB ID stayed the same so the driver stack is still using the quirks introduced with the 6.12 kernel. That doesn't add up I guess. Probably best to flash the firmware again and untick the "CC Mode Active" box before flashing.

RME Digiface USB and PipeWire
My work laptop provided by SURF, a Dell Pro 14 Premium, runs a custom Dell Ubuntu 24.04 ISO since otherwise half of the peripherals don’t work. Ubuntu 24.04 comes with PipeWire so I was curious if the Digiface would work with such a setup. Well, it does, albeit with some quirks. First of all PipeWire […]

RME Digiface USB and PipeWire – autostatic.com

My laptop from work runs #Ubuntu 24.04 with #PipeWire. Hooked up my RME Digiface USB to check out if that works with PipeWire but even the Pro profile stays quiet. So I cobbled together a #WirePlumber configuration that maps channel 33 and 34 (the phones output) to Front Left and Front Right. This works but I quickly get weird phasing and ringing audio. I suspect this is related to the bus topology of the Dell Pro 14 Premium, everything sits on one single bus.

RME Digiface USB on Linux
With the release of the 6.12 kernel the RME Digiface USB is supported under Linux. Since this is a very portable device with lots of IO (32 in and 34 out) it got on my radar as a possible candidate for making recordings at my rehearsal space. It took a while before I stumbled upon […]

Did some measurements with the RME Digiface USB because someone was going ballistics over the fact they couldn't go below a buffer size of 128 samples with over 12ms round-trip latency as a result.

Yes, we got a lock and 32 channels in.

Any #Reaper users out there running on #linux with #RMEAudio drivers (the new ones seeing as the kernel based ones seem to have been broken /taken out since last time I tried linux for #musicproduction ) and managing to get latencies lower than 1024?

I've got a rig sort of running with #debian (13) drivers compiled and running and #pipewire. But it's still pretty finicky and I haven't got anywhere close to trying to make MIDI work yet!
