What I always miss on #Windows 10/11 is the #Alsamixer of #Linux. I have audio interfaces that are class-compliant, and I can adjust their internal hardware controls with Alsamixer.
So I recently obtained this #Shure #X2u audio interface used and for cheap. Compared to its successor, the #MVX2U, this is a bulky unit, and only operating at 16bits. But the MVX2U has only software controls, while the X2u has actually little wheels for the settings and a button for phantom power.
So: I bought a specific piece of old suboptimal gear that compensates for a missing feature in Windows. Sometehing like 10 years ago, this would be the situation with Linux, now it's the opposite.
Of course, you guys out there could now tell me that Windows still has a GUI for the hardware #mixer of a generic USB #AudioInterface. I would be pleased to learn this.
All of this needs to run without installing specific drivers, because my clients can't do so on their business laptops.
