I have this weird analogy in my brain that 'countries are cars' because they are big, move fast, the people in the driver's seat care not for the rules of the road nor other road users, they are deadly yet incredibly common and are taken as a matter of fact of daily life...

It is not a perfect 1-1 analogy but the resemblances are ridiculous. Like a fractal of awfulness.
