12. When Sigmund Freud had to flee Vienna from the Nazis, he forgot to pick up two new glasses from his optician. They are now displayed in the Sigmund #Freud Museum, alongside other objects, letters and accompanying texts that situate his life and work within the history of the city #psychoanalysis
#Freud was not only a genius, he was also kind and had a great sense of humour. He was a good father and brother. Re-reading what the Nazis (and those that sided with them) did to him and over 200.000 Jews in Vienna is unforgivable and yet part of humanity that he helped us decipher. #psychoanalysis
Visited #Freud today in his former home in #Vienna. Very instructive, moving and also sad. All of his belongings had either been left by him or were forgotten (such as his new glasses) when he had to flee the Nazis - or they were brought back from his exile in London after his death. #psychoanalysis

"Les psychanalystes sont les savants d'un savoir dont ils ne peuvent s'entretenir" JAM #Lacan #psychoanalysis
Ever heard of the analogy that one should attempt to write as if one is sitting inside a moving train, looking outside, describing the landscape passing by? In #psychoanalysis, free association is like describing one's train of thought. It is also a way of letting one's thought derail itself.
"In the #Lacan /ian orientation an analysis is not a therapy, it is a technique to produce a de-Otherization of the speaking being, and to awaken from the disease that the unconscious is." Véronique Voruz. The end of analysis #psychoanalysis

James Hollis on finding the other in oneself.

"This fantasy of the other in whom we can submerge ourselves and return to the source is the chief fuel of regressive behaviours, whether they be romantic fantasies, drug addiction or over-identification with a group or ideology. What is not clear here . . . is that the other must also be found in oneself.

Finding the other in oneself involves a dialogue which may impede or improve the quality of relatedness to the outer other. Our romantic ideologies seek the other for completion and wholeness, and yet at the same time carry the seeds of annihilation. Failing to find the other in ourselves, to experience our own unfolding mystery, our quirks, our shadow, our complexes, neuroses and aspirations, is to fail to find the most interesting relationship of all. We always remain a mystery to ourselves, so we have a life-long agenda for growth and development. Whoever is bored has not yet awakened to the large drama that courses within."
