Building dreams at Kadunguni Primary!
Foundations are nearly set for our new classroom near Garashi! It’s dusty work, but it's incredible progress.
A huge ASANTE to our "Classroom for Christmas" donors and our tireless Kenyan site team for their hard work. Now the walls are rising, we need your help to finish the job:

In response to news that Israel's military "strike resulted in nearly the entire medical team, including doctors, paramedics, and nurses being killed" Jon Favreau wrote:
"Israel is killing medical workers, the United States is killing little kids, and together the two countries have killed more than 2,000 human beings. Just 3 weeks in."

Took a couple of writing sessions to settle properly back into the WIP (the downside of taking some time off) but I’m rolling now — I even finished off a scene that I was fully resigned, pre-break, to leaving to the second draft.
At 30,000 words and seven chapters, I’m now technically one third through the first draft. I only just hit the end of MC’s first day 😬
Unfortunately already fighting the “this is shit” feeling that normally hits at two-thirds, but shall power through as usual. (Likely more to do with the state of the world than the state of the draft…)
On the upside, discovered a Northamptonshire slang dictionary published in the 1850s, so you better believe I’m going to make my readers suffer through my favourite Northant slang 😊
Halfway through draft 2 🎉
Last week, I deleted infodumps, this week I said goodbye to an unnecessary subplot. Word count remains about the same, however, because I filled in all the bits (so many bits) I previously skipped.
I also began to fix a plot hole whereby my MC just…fails to tell people important info for no reason (well, because I forgot to get him to do so).
I’m looking forward to the coming week, because I have one major fix, and then a very pleasant run of seven chapters where only minor fixing will be needed (because, as with the first few chapters, I already did a lot of iterative work on them in the “first” draft).
(I’m also closing in on a major sales milestone, which will happen in the next few days, and which, given I’ve got there almost entirely by word of mouth, I am pleased and *very* grateful about.)
Six chapters down in my second draft. That’s slightly over a third by page count, but substantially under a third by chapter count.
Which tells me I’ve got some big gaps coming up to fill in.
On the plus side, I finally sucked it up and deleted the two sections I *knew* were infodumpy even as I was writing them.
On track for completing second draft by end of September🤞
