È una decisione clamorosa, perché lo spagnolo è il due volte campione uscente di Parigi, segno di quanto sia grave l’infortunio al polso rimediato a Barcellona.
“Dopo i risultati dei test effettuati oggi, abbiamo deciso che la cosa più prudente è essere cauti e non partecipare a Roma e Roland Garros, in attesa di valutare l’evoluzione per decidere quando tornare”, scrive Alcaraz, lasciando intendere quindi come i tempi di recupero non siano ancora certi. Infatti, poi aggiunge: ” È un momento complicato per me, ma sono sicuro che ne usciremo più forti”.
Per Alcaraz è un colpo durissimo: dopo la sconfitta in finale a Montecarlo contro Sinner, questo infortunio ha compresso interamente la stagione sulla terra rossa, la sua superficie preferita. Proprio nel Principato aveva già perso lo scettro di numero 1, ora vedrà il suo rivale allontanarsi ancora di più nella classifica Atp. Lo spagnolo infatti perderà i 3000 punti guadagnati un anno fa trionfando sia a Roma sia a Parigi.
