"Over 50 years ago, Eugene Odum postulated that mature or climax forests reside in carbon neutrality. As climate change rose to prominence in the international environmental agenda, the neutrality hypothesis transformed from an ecological principle to a justification for using forest management in combating climate change. Despite persistent efforts, Odum's neutrality hypothesis has resisted both confirmation and refutation."

Poop alert!! Salp poop!!!!

EXPORTS - #NASA and #NSF funded mission full of scientists obsessed with poop, and where does the poop go. One may say we study the fate of #primaryproduction in the #ocean, but honestly - there was lot of poop collected.
These episodic poop events, such as the one encountered in low productive waters of North Pacific question our ideas about low flux ecosystems biological pump.

ICON-Coast captures processes sustaining enhanced #coastal #PrimaryProduction (poorly represented in coarse models): #river inputs, #sediment #resuspension, import of #nutrient-rich water masses from the open ocean.

Such a #seamless connection of the #open and #coastal #ocean via regional grid refinement and enhanced process representation is a promising approach for #HighResolution modeling at the global scale.

Would be intriguing to see a fediverse server set up specifically for rural people involved in food production (farmers, market gardeners, orchardists etc). It could be a way for them to talk to each other across regional/ factional boundaries, and to talk directly with us city folk, instead of only through gatekeepers (Fed Farmers, Groundswell, media organizations, etc).

Framing farming’s important debates via the mailbox

Opposition to agricultural reforms gets a wide airing in the media, along with protest and lobby groups fighting the corner against ‘unworkable regulations.’ But farming industry groups - and many farmers - also know adaptation and compromise is inevitable. Mediawatch talks to the editor of Farmers Weekly, whose views end up in the mailbox of almost every farm in the land.
