Volkswagen is in a complicated situation in its transition to electric cars. The automotive giant is facing a significant challenge due to specific software for its cars that has not been successful in competing with Tesla in Europe and the United States. The company is planning to cut costs by 10.000 million euros in the coming years. However, there is some good news for Volkswagen. Solid-state batteries, which have been touted as the future of electric cars, have shown promising results. These batteries promise to be safer, faster to charge, and offer longer ranges of over 1000 kilometers. While there are still some hurdles to overcome, many manufacturers, including Volkswagen, are investing in their development. Volkswagen, through its subsidiary PowerCo, has confirmed the advances of the US-based company QuantumScape, which claims to have achieved excellent results in its solid-state battery cell. According to PowerCo, the battery has passed a test where it was charged and discharged 1000 times, and it only lost 5% of its capacity. This is excellent news for the industry, as most manufacturers offer warranties of between 70,000 and 200,000 kilometers or between seven and ten years. In the future, manufacturers will replace batteries as their capacity decreases, typically between 70% and 80%. Each brand has its own warranties. Frank Blome, CEO of PowerCo, described the results as 'very encouraging on the road to the series production of the solid-state battery cell.' However, it's worth noting that most manufacturers developing solid-state batteries are targeting the end of this decade for their commercialization, and it's still unclear what the final price of these energy accumulators will be. Some manufacturers, like Toyota, have warned that they will only be able to install them in high-performance cars due to their high cost, at least initially.
