Dead turtles with bleeding eyes wash up on Port Stephens beaches

Wildlife carers are investigating after turtles with unusual symptoms washed ashore at several popular swimming spots north of Newcastle.

ABC News

A while back I got to visit the north coast of NSW for work. By the end of the day I was about finished, but instead of going straight back to the hotel I visited the beach instead.

There was a high wind and nobody there. For the longest time it was just me hunting for photo angles among the dunes. I've never felt more like I was alone at the end of the world.

Ten out of ten. Highly recommend.

#DailyAustralia - The calm waters of #PortStephens provide a safe haven from the power of the mighty Pacific. So much so, that that in WW2 the government chose this relatively remote and then undeveloped spot for their forces to prepare for amphibious warfare. They turned the two mountains who guard the narrow entrance to the vast bay into bastions armed with guns and radars, to protect their chosen site from an imagined Japanese invasion.
