Teen Vogue, which had in the last decade become known as a place for young people to get their political news, is folding into Vogue.com and its editor, Verna Sharma, is stepping down. Here's the official announcement. It makes no reference to whether politics reporting will continue, stating: "As a dedicated pillar on Vogue, Teen Vogue will focus its content on career development, cultural leadership and other issues that matter most to young people." Lex McMenamin, the magazine's only politics reporter, announced on Bluesky earlier today that she has been laid off, along with multiple other staffers.

Like the MediaWatch hosts, I'm wont to carp about the gossip columning that passes for political reporting these days (with a few honorable exceptions like Mihinarangi Forbes, Jack Tame and Phil Pennington). But it just hit me why it bothers me so much.

Wow. I just blew my own mind. What I didn't think of when I was posting that, would be that creating these automated feeds (newswire bots?) would be an act of political #journalism. Like what Scoop does by publishing press releases. It creates a searchable index of information that's open source (in the original sense of the phrase).
In theory, anything that can be read online by a human can be read by a bot, and turned into an AP feed (and RSS feed, and Nostr feed, etc).
From #TrollFarms to racist #HateSpeech, nationalists’ bullying tactics are having a chilling effect on #PoliticalJournalism.
