Looking for some advice about peertube.

I'm working on a silly board game review show. What platform(s) do you all think would like that kind of content?

Do you publish videos on PeerTube? You can optionally give people early/exclusive access to videos by publishing them as "unlisted" or "password protected". You can do this on the video upload screen in the "Privacy" dropdown menu.

You can then share the unlisted link or password with whoever you want to give access to.

This is particularly useful for rewarding patrons with early access, or for asking for feedback before full publication.

I created a #peertube account with the lovely people at tilvids.com as a test, and oh boy is it a lot of fun! I am in the 'digging for creators' phase and its like the original youtube. Personally having subscriptions in peertube itself seems a different experience to RSS and Mastodon that I have used to-date. That's my #feditips for today! #PeerTubeTips
How are you using #peertube ? Keen to start following some creators, but so far only watched without logging in, but I think interaction & view counts are necessary for creators to feel their content is being appreciated? #PeerTubeTips #rss #fediverse

Someone asked how they can publish videos on PeerTube (the Fediverse's video platform). There's a guide to publishing on PeerTube here, it includes suggestions for where to sign up (and also how to make your own server if you prefer):

If you don't want to publish videos and just want help with watching and following PeerTube accounts, there's also a separate guide for that here:

I want to talk about how difficult it is to register for a working #PeerTube account. My videos were removed from tchncs and I was banned, for reasons I can't fathom. Go see my pinned videos. But then I created an account on another site, but it went under. So now I have a third, a partial solution.

Going to joinpeertube to find video hosting is a nightmare. It gives a list of hosts, most of which don't even allow new registrations.

This is a problem.

I'm looking for a good #Peertube instance that allows politics and posts in English. Suggestions?

If you publish videos on PeerTube, it lets you organise them in two ways: your account and your channels.

An account shows everything that the person has uploaded all in one place. Channels are sub-divisions of the account, and show only some of the account's videos.

For example, the account @mrfunkedude has its videos subdivided into a cooking channel @baking, a short video channel @mrfunkedude_sfv and a philosophy channel @mrfunkedudes_place

HOWEVER... there's a catch 😮

On most Fediverse servers outside PeerTube the videos will appear to all come from the same account rather than any channels. The channels can be followed, but the videos will only show the account's name, not the channel's.

If you are using PeerTube channels to organise your videos, bear this in mind.

If you need to keep PeerTube videos completely separate, it may be better to use separate PeerTube accounts rather than relying on channels.

If you're watching a PeerTube video, you can access subtitles (if it has any) by clicking the cog ⚙️ icon and selecting "subtitles/cc", then the language you want.

For example, this video has subtitles in 12 different languages:

You may need to press play to get the cog icon to appear.

Subtitles are normally done manually and added as files by the person uploading the video. PeerTube admins may also want to try an unofficial transcription plugin which adds automatically generated subtitles. More info about the plugin at: https://gitlab.com/apps_education/peertube/plugin-transcription (I am not sure what the status of the plugin is though... Does anyone know if it is still being maintained?) #PeerTubeTips #PeerTips #PeerTube #Subtitles #CC #ClosedCaptions #Captions #Accessibility #A11y
