Shout-out to Mozilla for providing a proper AI opt-out in Firefox. Nicely done. 👍 Your turn, Apple/Google.

Firefox updated to version 148 on one of my PCs today, and introduced its AI controls - presenting AI features, a global and feature by feature enable/disable. I really like its implementation of on-device translation.

Firefox seems to get a lot of flak for not listening to users - for me, it remains one of my favourite and most used applications. This panel - like its reversal on terms of service March 2025, are examples of the opposite.

AI is changing the web, and people want very different things from it. We’ve heard from many who want nothing to do with AI. We’ve also heard from

#Byelections today! Wishing Hannah Spencer, the #GreenParty, all the campaigners and all the citizens of Gorton and Denton who do not want a Reform MP the very best today. It matters SO MUCH!!

Remember: voting Green is the tactical vote. Really hoping and praying that everyone who was still planning to vote Labour will see this and back Hannah.

(Labour leadership prefer a Reform win to a Green win. Don’t listen to them. Not today, not ever. They are a shameful bunch).

Brainwashing, 2026 edition. This paper shows how X's algorithmic feed shifts people's views rightwards. It's a sophisticated, highly effective form of reorientation. And it is utterly chilling. If you're still on that platform, unhook yourself now. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The political effects of X’s feed algorithm - Nature

Among users initially on a chronological feed, 7 weeks of exposure to X’s algorithmic feed in 2023 shifted political attitudes and account-following behaviour in a more conservative direction compared with those remaining on a chronological feed, whereas switching the feed setting in the opposite direction, from algorithmic to chronological, had no effect.

In case you worried that far-right politicians were just banning instructors from teaching disfavored content (e.g., slavery was bad; LGBTQ folks are human beings), it turns out they're also mandating curriculum content. So it's not just "Here's what you can't teach" but also "Here's what you must teach."

I don't know how and why, but my home timeline took a severe hit in posts relatives to gaming and generally speaking videogames.

I went looking for someone interesting in the #gaming and #videogames (and #SteamDeck and #PS5) hashtags but 90% of the posts seems coming from automated profiles, which isn't really good.

SO! If you have any human profile suggestions for the topics above, ping them here, let's start a Gaming Follow Friday thread, that could work too for Federating other servers :)

Boosts appreciated, thanks!

Oh and feel free to suggest an alternative to the hashtag GamingFollowFriday, I suck at these things.
