Paul Gilroy: Schwarzer Atlantik, Moderne und doppeltes Bewusstsein. Paul Gilroy zeigt in seinem bereits 1993 erschienenen Grundlagenwerk, wie sich ein modernes Schwarzes (Selbst-)Bewusstsein nicht nur als afrikanisch, amerikanisch, oder karibisch beschreiben lässt, sondern vielmehr als hybride afrodiasporische Kultur, die ethnische Zugehörigkeiten oder Nationalitäten gar nicht erst ignoriert.
Charakterisiert durch ihre Prozesshaftigkeit, sich manifestierend in einem stetigen Transfer von und durch vor allem Musik und Literatur, bildet sie das sich ständig re-konstituierende Merkmal einer »Black Identity«.
