🇺🇸 Donald Trump threatened European allies that he would halt arms supplies to Ukraine under the PURL program if they did not help unblock the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reports citing sources. Following these threats, on March 19 the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan signed a joint statement expressing readiness to contribute to reopening the strait. Later, some of these countries clarified that such actions would only take place after the end of the war. The joint statement was pushed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. One source said that during talks with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Rutte explained that Trump had been “quite hysterical” over Europe’s refusal to help protect the Strait of Hormuz. ▪️Tonight, Trump is expected to address the nation.
