But the parasitical reality of investment and "entrepreneurship" has been obscured through many decades of capitalist and conservative propaganda which smothers the nasty realities with a blizzard of ever-shifting abstractions and myths about the process, such as the myth that leeching and hoarding money in this way is actually "growing" and "building" (after all, it makes certain numbers go sky-high) and not in fact the outright theft of money which ought to be going only two places: into rewarding those who do the actual labor, and into maintaining and upgrading the physical facilities of the business.
Everything else, especially the #profits skimmed from the business, is wastage—it's literal inefficiency. In order for profits to be available for skimming and hoarding, the actual physical business and its laborers must be starved, and the products and services must suffer in order for them to be profitable.

When I was at the hospital last night, I thought it would be nice to have someone to chat with. Most of the people in the ER were alone.
"Would it be a hospital employee?"
Yes.
"Who would pay for this?"
The hospital.
"That's never going to happen."
The reason it is not currently happening is that companies which are supposed to improve the well-being of the people they serve are putting profits above well-being. Yes, they do improve well-being, but this is incidental to the profit imperative.
If you believe that the way these corporations behave is fine, then you are part of the problem.
I can only talk about US healthcare. I've moved to the US so long ago that I don't think I can talk about the current situation in Canada. I'll just say that the fears about "socialized healthcare" are utterly unfounded.
