Make Votes Matter OXON Debate

Proportional Representation is any voting system in which the share of seats a party wins matches the share of votes it receives. There are many different systems of Proportional Representation, but they all aim to make sure seats match votes. The UK currently uses the primitive First Past the Post voting system - which causes severe problems for voters, our politics and our society. Join MVM co-founder and Chief Exec Klina Jordan and Layla Moran MP for Oxford West and Abingdon in a conversation about how Proportional Representation would make ALL votes matter. Layla was elected in 2017 partly by a progressive alliance and tactical voting – under PR these wouldn’t be necessary! Also confirmed to speak is local GP and health campaigner Dr Helen Salisbury, who in 2015 stood as a parliamentary candidate for the National Health Action Party, and Professor Helen Margetts, of the Oxford Internet Institute. This is also a chance to hear what your local councillors think of PR, as we will be announcing the results of our Councils for PR survey.

Drop in meetings for writers. Dario at Unbound has written plays for theatre and audio and is a thoroughly lovely chap.

Concern is growing here after the number of avian flu cases have increased. We've only seen it in the wild geese population so far, but Chekhov, our resident wild swan cob, attacked a sick goose this morning. The R number for the spread of the H5N1 virus can be as high as 100. Keep your fingers crossed for him.

Turning in for the evening. Will end my day's posts with a pic I took the other day of a local stretch of the River Thames close to where I live. I'm Yorkshire-born and miss God's Own County, but feel very lucky to live where I now do. #Oxon
