Bank Holiday Monday and a late start #sculling on the Wear. Warm already at 7:30 and sunny, the Saturn runners were also out early I assume to miss the worse of the hear. This morning we were looking at dropping or increasing our rate to see if either brought benefits. The higher rate won although we were messy so work to do. The consensus seems to be rate gives us speed, some of our competition rate well below us but get speed through power. The alternative is we could start going to the gym and lifting heavy weights which might be smart but is unlikely to stick. Then off to Longhoughton beach for a less energetic paddle.

Sunday #sculling on the Wear. Sunny and warm we were on and off the water before it got too busy. Steady outing and exercises, we are missing Wansbeck next weekend so the next race will be Hexham.

Maybe something about this kind of rough application of paint that allows for some experience that wouldn't be there with a more realistic painting. This is like the idea of the thing, like the magic of the scene was separated from its reality and emphasized. All the texture and physical sense of the paint gives it a feel, also. I don't even care what the real place looks like, I like this version of it. Great colors.

Anyway I'm sure there are writers who have expressed what's going on in these types of paintings very well already. I really like this one a lot.
