The line serves as a key transport route for both personnel and nuclear materials. The prospective buyer was Anastasia, the daughter of Russian businessman Yuriy Shamara, a former board member of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. The family’s wealth is linked to ownership of the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The attempted purchase raised concerns within the UK Ministry of Defence, as it was seen as part of a broader strategy of acquiring land near military sites and critical infrastructure across Western Europe.
