#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
Mudchute DLR station was rebuilt and relocated in the late 1990s as part of the #Lewisham extension. The project involved realigning the railway and lowering the tracks from a viaduct to ground level before entering the tunnel beneath the River #Thames.
Platform 3 was added in the late 2000s on land created by the earlier track realignment. It serves as an operational siding and turnback facility, allowing faulty trains to be removed from service without disrupting the wider network. It can also be used to reverse southbound trains during service disruption, helping to maintain services elsewhere.
The platform supports alternative operating arrangements, including the potential for some trains to terminate at Mudchute. While it is not used in the standard timetable, it is occasionally used during special service patterns and partial network closures.
