One-on-one conversations can be sites where the more powerful party coerces the less powerful, sometimes through abusive behavior.
How does your organization protect its members against this dynamic?

No surprise that “leaders” are falling over in the face of anti-democratic headwinds.
As it has developed in recent decades, leadership isn’t about leading. It’s about coercing subordinates to comply with hierarchy.

Org leaders put your important messages in writing not videos challenge (impossible).
If entryism didn’t work, organizations wouldn’t have such wide-ranging and effective immune responses to suppress internal dissent (a thread).

“Why do you want to be in an echo chamber?” grossly underestimates the amount of disagreement within a coalition.
It is also important not to misperceive an echo chamber where power incumbents within a group are attempting to control the narrative through an appearance of consensus, e.g. “We’re all on the same team (so long as you agree with our position)” etc.

"Critical feedback is welcome here,” they laugh breezily, skipping ahead while their comrade faceplants on a missing stair.
A vicious circle: Difficult discussions cannot be engaged productively without trust. Failure to engage difficult discussions prevents trust from being built.
An organization doesn’t necessarily owe _the public_ an airing of its internal accountability, but it does owe an accessible and transparent process to its members, especially those holding positions of lowest power in the org.
An introduction for my new instance:
My main interests are written communication, teaching writing, and education, particularly as they relate to productive disagreement explored in various contexts: rhetoric, organizational & workplace communication, organizational learning, training, research, emergent strategy, coalition work, and facilitation.
