First attempt at receiving #sstv from #RS38S was a bust. It was also the first time I tried to program my GD77 with qdmr. I think I got that wrong.

Really struggling to find the root-cause of this #OpenGD77 #MMDVM hotspot simulation sound quality problem.

Testing with Parrot - works for approx 2-3 secs, then breaks down completely to an unrecognisable noise. Definitely sounds like an RFI issue, but cannot figure out where and how. Even with the radio set to mW levels it's not working well.

Next, I will move the antenna far away from the radio by some coax.

Successfully defeated my learning overwhelm and inertia today thanks to some input here on satellite listening!

First bird heard was SO-50 and then later astronaut Mike Fincke making contacts on the space station. With hams from New Jersey, CT, and Quebec. Clear as a bell on just 18° elevation with a Comet SBB5 mag mount dual band whip, Radioddity GD77 and opengd77!

Another listen with a teacher tomorrow!

So now I'm on DMR. Got the hotspot put together in my favorite project box.

Still bummed that I have to use Windows to program my DM1701 with #opengd77. It's the only thing I need Windows for. Thinking about getting a rt3s so I can use #qdmr on #linux .

#dmr update: built a cable and
got it to work... using the Windows CPS for #opengd77 .

#qdmr does not work, however. It (I guess) works with a stock #dm1701 and with other radios running opengd77... but not on DM1701 running opengd77.

Wish I'd known that before I bought the radio. Good thing I saved a windows partition on an old laptop. #hamradio
